Worship Ministries

"Serving God acceptably with reverence & godly fear." -Heb. 12:28

"How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven."

- Genesis 28:17

Our Mission

Saint Paul reminds us in Hebrews 12:28 that Reverence and Godly Fear are habits of conduct and behavior that must be inscribed in the hearts and minds of all our volunteers who assist during our worship services. Whether it be our Acolytes in the Holy Altar, our Ushers, Welcome Team, Chanters, or Choir Members; when these groups provide their acceptable service, all of the faithful in attendance are able to worship in a joyful and efficient manner.

Much like the angels who serve at the Lord's throne in Heaven, these volunteer ministries are called to serve the Lord in His Holy Sanctuary here on earth. In doing so these men and women assist the clergy in the celebration of the Divine Mysteries while helping to create a beautiful and inspiring atmosphere within the Church.

Choir & Chanters

Singing primarily "a cappella," the Saint Mark choir and chanting group encourage congregational participation during the worship services. This ministry of music is vital to the life of the Church and greatly enhances the worship experience at Saint Mark. All music is sung in both English and Greek, and no previous choral experience is necessary. The Chanters are responsible for signing during the early service (Orthros, at 8:45 am) on Sundays. During this service, the Choir has their rehearsals at 9:15 am in the choir loft.

Ushers & Welcome Team

The Ushers and Greeters of Saint Mark greet people as they arrive at church. They also welcome visitors, provide assistance, care for the proskinitaria (candle areas), and administer the collection of offerings. These faithful ushers perform a valuable service for our church. If you are interested in participating as an Usher or Greeter, please contact the Church Office.

Prayer & Visitation Teams

Boca Raton is a thriving community of all walks of life, including a large demographic in our local area of retired seniors, many of whom are unable to leave the house. Our Visitation Team responds in ministering to this population by volunteering to make monthly house visits to a few elderly/infirm parishioners to encourage them and pray with them. In addition to these house calls, we also have a prayer team that devotes at least three times per week to offer prayers for those in need. Both of these teams work in conjunction with our Saint Mark clergy to provide spiritual care to our faithful!

The Acolytes (Altar Boys) are the liturgical representation of the angels who serve at the Lord's throne in Heaven. They assist the clergy in all liturgical matters that take place during the Divine Liturgy, and other worship services in our sanctuary. All boys in the parish in fourth grade and above may serve as an Altar Boy. Altar Boys must be on time each Sunday (9:45 am) and participate at the special services throughout the year.
