Acolytes (Altar Boys)
Altar Boys are the liturgical representation of the angels who serve at the Lord’s throne in Heaven. They assist the Clergy in all liturgical matters that take place during the Divine Services. All boys in the parish in 3rd grade and above may serve as an Altar Boy. Altar Boys must arrive on time each Sunday (9:30 AM) and participate in the special services throughout the year.
This is a wonderful experience for young men to not only assist the Clergy, but to experience the Divine Liturgy in a unique and personal way. Each year, “older” boys are chosen by the Clergy as Co-Captains, and together with our Black Robe Leaders (Tom Bean and Sean Gibson), oversee the Acolytes. If your son is interested in service to the Holy Altar, please reach out to one of Clergy or leaders.
You will notice at Saint Mark that many of our college-age and adult young men continue to serve in the Altar. With prior blessing from the Clergy, they are allowed to participate.
