MTSF - the beginning

Dear St. Mark Parishioners,

As many of you know, since 2003, the level of mission-minded awareness has grown at St. Mark. The coin box program has been very successful in its ability to bring everyone together and give us all the chance to become stateside missionaries. But beyond this, there has been a select group of people who have ventured out and gone on missionary trips both in the USA and overseas. One example of this was that Pam and Keith Collins did a short mission trip to Alaska in 2009. They have so many wonderful stories to tell about their trip. As you can see, the level of response to the missions program has taken a large step forward, Glory be to God! I am happy to report that there has been an active orthodox mission team formed here in the South Florida area
. The official name is “MISSION TEAM - SOUTH FLORIDA” / MTSF .
The group is made up of approximately a dozen and a half parishioners and this is only the beginning. The Lord has given us all an opportunity to participate in the missionary efforts of the Church and we are now laying the foundation that will help in doing this. It is my great hope that every single parishioner will take the next step and become more involved in the growth of missions. If you are interested in joining MTSF , please contact Pam Collins (
pcollins@intrepidassociates.com ) for details. The goal of the mission team is to support our outreach mission work via the OCMC by sharing the Love of God.

The Orthodox Christian Mission Center (OCMC) is the official international missions agency of the Standing Conference of Canonical Orthodox Bishops in America (SCOBA).

As stated before, Pam and Keith Collins were part of the Mission Team to Alaska in the summer of 2009 and they are happy to share the joy of being a part of a short term mission's team to all. I thank you for your time and I look forward to the growth of missions around the globe.

Yours in Christ,

Ms. Katherine A. Wilcoxson

Nearly 2000 years after the Ascension of Christ, the majority of the world is still not Christian, and over a billion people have never heard the Gospel.

The Problem : “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few” (Matthew 9:37).

The Solution : “Beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest” (Matthew 9:38). Be part of the solution. Join us in praying daily for future missionaries.

Christ our God, the source of wisdom and Bridegroom of the Church, You called the Apostles to follow You and to become fishers of men, giving them authority to cast out unclean spirits and to heal every disease and infirmity. You commissioned them to make disciples of all nations and to feed your sheep. On the day of Pentecost, You sent the Holy Spirit to fortify them, enabling them to fill people?s lives with Your saving love. Continue to act today, loving Savior, for the good of Your Holy Church. Send Your Holy Spirit upon dedicated men and women; inspire them to respond to Your Great Commission and to serve You as missionaries, for the building up of Your Body, the Church. Through the prayers of all the holy missionary saints, strengthen all who are preparing to serve Your Holy Church in humility and love. For You are a loving and merciful God, and unto You we give glory, together with Your eternal Father, and Your all-holy, good and life-giving Spirit, now and forever and unto ages of ages. AMEN.

                      Mission Statement

To help fulfill the Great Commission of Christ (Matthew 28:16); the Orthodox Christian Mission Center (OCMC) strives to establish vibrant Eucharistic communities throughout the world, to develop and support indigenous church leaders, and to strengthen the infrastructure of their churches. OCMC carries out this work primarily, though not solely, in countries where Christianity is in the minority and where the Gospel message has not yet been proclaimed. OCMC will recruit, train, send, and support Orthodox missionaries to preach, teach, baptize, construct, and minister to the spiritual and physical needs of those being served and saved.
